The Electro Hangar

The Electro Hangar is an ongoing project aiming at the formation of an electric aviation centre in the midst of Dalarna, Sweden. It will act as a combined pilot training residence and R&D centre for the development of the general electric aviation sector in the region. Situated at the Himmelslätta Airpark in Gagnef, it is strategically located right in the bullseye of a region with many surrounding regional airports that can be conveniently reached by today’s electric aircraft. The vision is to boost the use of light electric aircraft by offering cost-efficient training for the next generation of pilots and developing cost-efficient technical solutions. The Electro Hangar will be a research and test centre for technical solutions such as charging infrastructure — and available for electro flight camps and related types of activities.

Design by
Gert Wingårdh

The Electro Hangar is designed by the award-winning architect Gert Windgårdh, founder of Wingårdh Arkitektkontor. The minimalistic, barn-like, design takes inspiration from its Nordic origins – with the characteristic Falu-red colour which is a landmark for the Swedish countryside. By using carefully selected and durable materials, like Douglas fir in the pillars, it’s made to last for many years. And to be enjoyed by generations to come.

Himmelslätta Airfield

Himmelslätta Airpark is the second airpark in Sweden and consist of an 800-meter-long grass runway and is used by both full scale and model aircrafts. The grass airstrip will be connected to the Electro Hangar via an asphalt taxiway.

plugBorne

The Electro Hangar shares design elements with plugBorne — our cost- and resource-efficient solution for rapid charging of current and future light electric aircraft. plugBorne is developed and tested at the Electro Hangar.
